I wrote in May to keep an eye out for establishments to be closing in the near future. Yesterday it was revealed that Café Monmartre had closed while today brings news that Out restaurant and nightclub has has bit the dust.
Their menu sure looked good and I heard positive things about the place but I can imagine that $7 grilled cheeses didn't fly too well in this recession. (Nichole – this is where you tell me that $7 for a grilled cheese is average for Madison. ;))
A friend of mine gave me his thoughts. He said that one thing working against Out was that Madison is a pretty gay-friendly town all around. Secondly, while there are many gay people on the west side, they tend to be older and less inclined to announce to the world that they are gay. They patronize restaurants that serve good food at reasonable prices and don't need a place to advertise itself as gay-friendly.
As Howlin Wolf sang, who will be next?
