Doctor Who Spoiler & Torchwood Starts Tonight

Doctor Who fans are having to wait until November for the episode in David Tennant's final season but we have a little something from io9 to whet our palates.

Is John Simm returning as The Master? And what Time Lord is Timothy Dalton going to be? Ooh! Perhaps he'll be a casatellan who orders Commander Maxil out of retirement to kill The Doctor. Bungling his attempt to do away with our beloved hero, Maxil ends up starting the Time Wars. See, I should be a Doctor Who screenwriter.

In other related news, the new season of Torchwood starts today on BBC. The show was moved to the prestigious BBC1 and inexplicably had its season shortened to five episodes, all of which are being shown this week. I believe they are to be shown on BBC America next week.

This season was preceded last week by three audio dramas broadcast on BBC Radio 4: "Asylum", "Golden Age", and "The Dead Line". I've gotten a hold of them but haven't listened to them yet. These, in turn, follow "Lost Souls", another radio drama which was broadcast last September. I have heard it and it was great. I can't imagine that you'd need to hear the radio dramas to understand anything in particular this season. Rather I think they flesh out the remaining members' reactions to the deaths of their friends and how Torchwood proceeds as a trio.
