I saw my first lacrosse game over the weekend.
The son of a couple friends of mine was playing so I had someone to cheer for. One friend was pretty vocal, shall we say, and then, at one point, decided she wasn't going to yell anymore. Her silence lasted for all of 30 seconds. But she was downright gentle in contrast to some of the other parents who all but threatened the refs physical well being. A coach and a ref got into a verbal altercation in the field behind us and their spat gave me flashbacks to scenes of Billy Martin on This Week in Baseball.
It was a much more physical game than I thought with lots of bodychecking and whacks with the sticks. This explains why the kid was wearing body armor when I saw him before the match started. So there were those elements of hockey. I suppose there's a bit of soccer in there too.
