Halloween Unmasked

"Is it a trick or a treat? Halloween unmasked".

Pagans may venerate Oct. 31 and fundamentalists are free to shun it, but most Americans will agree with the Supreme Court that Halloween is secular not religious. At worst, it teaches kids the art of the shakedown and the joy of the sugar high. At best, it is a chance for children to enjoy the theater of the masquerade and to meet neighbors they don't encounter any other time. That alone seems reason enough to follow the one tradition we do know the Druids honored: marking the end of summer with a festival to bring the whole community together.
