New Hitchhiker's Book?!

The Beeb is reporting that a new Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book is in the works. It's to be penned by a children's author whom I, unsurprisingly, have never heard of, Eoin Colfer.

Children's author Eoin Colfer has been commissioned to write a sixth instalment of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series.

Mostly Harmless, the last Hitchhiker book, was written by its creator, the late Douglas Adams, 16 years ago.

Now Adams's widow, Jane Belson, has given her approval to bring back the hapless Arthur Dent in a new book entitled And Another Thing...

Eoin Colfer, 43, is best known for the best-selling Artemis Fowl novels.

The book is slated for release next October and I'm not getting my hopes up. Look what happened when Arthur C. Clarke handed the reins to Rama over to Gentry Lee.

Also note that the radio adaptation of Adams' second Dirk Gently novel, The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul, starts on 2 October. Check out the series' page at BBC Radio Four.
