Music, all I hear is music...guaranteed to please

Recently I put a CD shelf together and got all of my music CD's unpacked. Well, most of them. Bootlegs remain in a box. Since then I have bought even more and now have to rejigger things to make room for them on the proper shelves.

The Louis Michot and Alash albums were bought at their shows here earlier this month while the one by Verità Baroque was purchased online after seeing one of their performances at the Madison Early Music Festival back in January. Tomeka Reid - come back to Madison, please! 

I bought The Monks album just yesterday at B-Side. It was neat because I hadn't been there in ages and had never been to their new digs which, I suppose, aren't all that new anymore. The general layout is the same as the old space and the presence of Steve Manley behind the counter gave a familiar and welcoming feeling. But it was really odd to be able to browse without having to squeeze between shelves. All that space is so odd. Ha!

I was happy to see that the King Crimson selection remains strong there. 

In the store of the doughnut king

Today I learned that's there is now a purveyor of doughnuts here in Madison called Level 5 Donuts. Madison Magazine reports that they are a pop-up company but will soon have a brick and mortar location. Somewhere on Atwood Avenue, apparently, but the article does not give an address. I look forward to trying one of their vegan doughnuts.

While I do not know what the name means, you bet your sweet ass that a certain King Crimson song was the first thing that came to mind when I saw it on the page. What Crimsony flavors could they offer? Vanilla Barks' Tongues in Chocolate? Eggless and Oreo Black? Latte Kudachai?

R.I.P. Pete Sinfield

Pete Sinfield was a man of many hats. He was King Crimson's OG roadie, wrote lyrics for them, produced albums, did lighting, got album covers painted, et al. I also know him as someone who wrote lyrics with Greg Lake, worked with Roxy Music, and made one solo album. A prog legend and he passed away yesterday.

I do think it's good

For reasons unknown, the only footage of the Beat show here in Madison a week or so ago that has made it onto Youtube is Danny Carey's drum solo during "Indiscipline". I'll write about the concert sometime as it was a great show with Steve Vai defying expectations most assuredly and Danny Carey putting his own stamp on the Brufordian rhythms.

The more I look at it, the more I like it.

Beat, the new band featuring Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Steve Vai, and Danny Carey, are going on tour where they'll play 80s King Crimson.

They'll be here in Madison at the Orpheum Theater on 3 November.
