Seen before Strange Harvest at Point. Strange Harvest was disappointing. It was True Detective season 1 but done in a Fox reality show kind of way. There were some good elements but the interviews were just really cheesy. But I liked the Lovecraftian vibes of the planets being aligned bringing doom.

The screening began with a commercial for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre which is returning to screens. This was followed by one for Witchboard before the trailers began.

 

Things ended with a commercial for Traumatika featuring claims such as "This is not a movie you see, this is a movie you survive!" and various things touting the movie's extreme brutality. I'll pass.

Seen before Eddington.

I am still thinking about Eddington. It is drenched in that Ari Aster feeling of a situation that is uncannily uncomfortable. The scenes with the sheriff, Joe Cross, arguing/pleading with his wife Louise really hit me. A bit too close to home, a bit too soon. And, honestly, the same goes for the nearly ubiquitous commentary on technology - the addictive qualities of smartphones and the power they give to quickly and unthinkingly vent one's spleen.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie - it was shot by the great Darius Khondji - but there were many an uncomfortable moment that Aster could not have foreseen. The final act took a really dark turn that I did not expect and it made me uncomfortable in a whole new way. Our hero falls and becomes what he despises. Whom should I feel sorry for? My head was a mess of conflicting feelings.

Onto the trailers. I should note that Marcus shows many fewer commercials than AMC and not as many trailers. Thank you, Marcus.

I didn't know that there was a new Yorgos Lanthimos film to be had.

I am intrigued by the latest from Spike Lee.

I did not recognize The Rock until the voiceover said his name or it appeared onscreen. Did he just add hair or has his face been given prosthetics?

Seen before Hot Milk. The AMC website now admonishes "Movies start 25-30 minutes after showtime." They weren't kidding. A lot more commercials now. Maybe with all this new ad revenue, AMC can repave the parking lot which resembles the lunar surface with crater after suspension killing crater.

At showtime a series of commercials started that lasted about 6 minutes - Coke, pickup trucks - that kind of thing. This was followed by 3 minutes of AMC promos which finished with the Nicole Kidman one that freaks me out every time because her face doesn't look real anymore.

Then came a couple Fathom commercials. First was for Ick and the second for the Metropolitan Opera. The trailers proper then began.

Things ended with a Megan 2.0 commercial where she says to silence phones and see her movie.
