DVD News

Fans of Apocalypse Now are pleased to hear about the 15 August release of Apocalypse Now - The Complete Dossier. It is a 2DVD set featuring both the original theatrical version as well as the 2001 Redux. Plus there's a boatload of extras. While I will personally find all the behind-the-scenes stuff to be interesting, I'm really looking forward to close to half an hour of extra scenes that made it to neither cut of the film. Presumably folks who have seen the 5-hour workprint will recognize these sequences. Hopefully the bit where Willard chops the baby in half with the machete will be included! Info on the release is here.

This month's Amazon Wire podccast features David Lynch who gives word on the DVD release of Twin Peaks Season 2. He plans to start work on the project after post-production for his latest film, Inland Empire is finished. Hopefully the pilot will see the light of day as well.

Lastly, there's a whole lotta Blade Runner news to be had. From IGN DVD:

In September of 2006, Warner Home Video will release a restored and remastered version of the Blade Runner 1992 Director's Cut for a special four month limited release, in anticipation of a series of exciting an unprecedented releases of the film in theaters and on DVD.

Following a four month run of the remastered Blade Runner DVD, this disc will be placed on moratorium, by WHV. In 2007, Warner will follow with a limited theatrical run of Blade Runner: The Final Cut, which is being touted as Ridley Scott's definitive version. Subsequently, there will be a multi-disc Special Edition DVD release which will contain three alternate versions of the film: the original U.S. theatrical cut, the expanded international theatrical cut and the 1992 director's cut. "Ample, groundbreaking bonus features will also be included," according to the WHV press release.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Blade Runner on the big screen.
