It's 1087 and the Doctor is holding court at an inn in the ancient city of Myra. He reminisces about his old friend Saint Nicholas whose bones happen to be in the reliquary of a church in town. Meanwhile, a group of sailors have to come to steal Nicholas' bones and take them from this "heathen place". Anatolia was very much a Christian land back then but perhaps the sailors were Catholic and not Greek Orthodox or just had some other irrational dislike of Byzantium.
Anyway, the Doctor pulls a switcheroo and the ossuary is restored to its full glory.
A short, by-the-numbers kind of story but a novel approach to a Doctor Who Christmas tale.
