Measuring Up

That wiley Anne Seamans over at About Sexuality recently had a hoolie called "Measuring Up" featuring some sex statistics:

Sex Practices
92% of all males and 62% of females reported masturbating (Kinsey, 1953).

Nearly 85% of men and 45% of women who were living with a sexual partner reported masturbating in the past year (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

27% of men and 19% of women had oral sex in the past year (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

23% of men and 11% of women bought X-rated movies in the last year (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

10% of men and 9% of women had anal sex in the past year (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994)

14% of men and 11% of women have had some sexual experience with sadomasochism (Janus & Janus, 1993).

Frequency
18-29 year-olds have sex an average of 112 times per year, 30-39 year-olds an average of 86 times per year and 40-49 year-olds an average of 69 times per year (Piccinino, Mosher, 1998).

Fantasy
54% of men think about sex at least every day, 19% of women think about sex at least once per day (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

Orientation
6.2% of men and 4.4% of women are attracted to members of the same sex (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

5% of men and 3% of women consider themselves bisexual (Janus & Janus, 1993).

Orgasm
75% of men and 29% of women always orgasm with their partner (Laumann, Gagnon, Michael, Michaels, 1994).

STDs
By the age of 35, one in three sexually active people will have contracted a sexually transmitted disease (KFF, 1998).

Penis Size
The average erect penis of US males is 5-7 inches and the average circumference is 4-6 inches (Gebhard and Johnson, 1979).

Adolescent Sexuality
87% of high school students reported having sexual intercourse (CDC, 1998).

2/3 of adolescents use some method of contraception, usually the condom, the first time they have intercourse (AGI, 1994).

6 in 10 pregnancies occur among 18-19 year olds (AGI, 1999).

Now, personally, I feel that the stat about 92% of men as being active onanists is way too low. It may sink to 92% around middle age but I'm thinking we young fellas hold steady at 100% and keep that average up. After reading this, it popped into my head to wonder what the average breast size is in this country. I found that it was a B-cup up until 1996 or so when it became C. After moving breasts to the back of my mind, I looked at the stat about teenage pregnancy. 60% of pregnancies occur among women 18-19. And Righties think abstinence only sex ed with cure this? Ladies and Gents, honest info and lots of rubbers is how to cure this.
